Is Gateway track re-opening?

GATEWAY INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY IN ST. LOUIS TO RE-OPEN?

Apparently the shuttered Gateway International Raceway located in Madison, Ill., just across the Mississippi River from downtown St. Louis is on the verge of re-opening.

Last year the four owners of the land the facility is built hired the original developer of the multi-use auto racing facility, Chris Pook, and former general manager of the track, Rod Wolter, to resolve the back tax issues and find a buyer. Reportedly the two men have been successful.

According to our source, a wealthy St. Louis local businessman with ties to the Sports Car Club of America is in the last stages of finalizing a contract. This would not be the first time that persons connected with the SCCA have invested in the Gateway property.

If the deal does go through, that would almost certainly mean a re-opening of a weekly drag racing program and a return of St. Louis to the NHRA schedule. Stay tuned.
