Johnny Scott scores Top-10 finish in Hell Tour stop at Fairbury Speedway
Johnny Scott made his debut with the DIRTcar Summer Nationals on Thursday evening at Peoria Speedway (Peoria, Ill.) for the second stop of the Hell Tour. Following the second fastest time in his group, Scott scored a runner-up finish in his heat behind Ryan Unzicker. Slated to start the $5,000-to-win A-Main in fifth, Mother Nature made an appearance and postponed the 40-lapper to July 21st.
On Friday night, Johnny followed the Hell Tour to Tri-City Speedway (Granite City, Ill.) while Stormy entered the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) doubleheader at Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.). Drawing 33 cars for the General Tire Summer Sizzler Nationals, Stormy came in seventh in his heat before placing fifth in his B-Main. Relying on a provisional into the $12,000-to-win A-Main, Stormy improved five spots in the 50-lap affair to register an 18th place outing.
For the third round of the DIRTcar Summer Nationals, Johnny came in second in his group behind Rick Eckert before picking up a 10-lap heat race victory. Drawing the pole position for the A-Main, Scott contested for the top spot in the first half of the race before contact with the turn-three barrier sidelined him with nosepiece damage on lap 23.
On Saturday night with Mother Nature wiping out the LOLMDS finale for Stormy, Johnny headed to Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.) to compete in a field of 37 cars. Scoring a third place finish in his heat race, Johnny locked into the 10th-starting position for the main event. With $10,000 on the line, Scott held his spot for all 50-laps to place 10th.
Wet conditions forced officials to postpone Sunday’s Summer Nationals event at the Bullring at RICo Fairgrounds (East Moline, Ill.) to a later date.
