Adams Comes Back Strong Following Scary Crash

Inside Line Promotions – FREMONT, Ohio (Aug. 1, 2017) – Justin Adams thought his rookie season competing in the 305ci winged sprint car division was over following a nasty crash a few weeks ago.
However, the racing community came together and family and friends rolled up their sleeves. The 14-year-old not only returned to action, he raced his way into the A Main at Fremont Speedway from the last starting spot in his heat race last Saturday.
“That crash was a pretty rough experience,” he said. “But we were able to borrow parts here and there and were able to get the car back together. I want to thank Matt Lucius, Roger Shammo and Mark Keegan for all their help in getting the car back together.”
Things didn’t start out too well for Adams last weekend. On Friday, he raced at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, where 34 cars signed in to compete in the JLH General Contractor FAST 305 Championship Series event.
“We didn’t have the right gear in and struggled to get the launch we wanted,” he said after finishing seventh in both a heat race and the B Main.
Adams said the team used the same setup the next night at Fremont Speedway.
“We got the gear we needed and it gave us that little extra boost,” he said. “We changed everything on the car from the previous week. We are still learning in this 305 deal. It’s a lot different from the quarter midgets and 600s. The competition is so tough around here.”
Adams started last in his heat race and drove around two cars late to earn the final A Main transfer position.
“I knew there were some good cars behind me and I just tried to concentrate on hitting my marks,” he said. “I pulled into the pits and everyone was happy. I thought we would be on the pole of the B Main. It was like 10 minutes later they told me I made the final transfer into the A Main. That gives me a lot more laps to learn. It sure does beat starting in the middle of the pack of the B Main.”
Adams’ charge from ninth to fifth place in the heat race missed a spot in the dash by only one position. It lined him up 13th in the main event and he finished the night with a 17th-place result.
“Our goal this year was to improve each week and eventually race our way into the features,” he said. “Every additional lap I get I learn. Following some of the best sprint car racers is the best learning experience there is.”
Adams is scheduled to return to Fremont Speedway this Saturday.
