WARRENFELTZ BREAKS THROUGH FOR COVETED HAGERSTOWN LATE MODEL SPORTSMAN SCORE. WILSON SEMI LATE STAR, DEVIN FRIESE TAKES LEGENDS MAIN.
Hagerstown MD, (8/17/24)- It would be a dream come true for Williamsport Md’s Austin Warrenfeltz Saturday at Hagerstown Speedway. The fourth generation driver would start on the pole, survive some late race dramatics, and eventually lead all 20-circuits to post his first career Late Model Sportsman feature win. Austin’s victory, came in his family owned Rocket No.11, and it would make him the seventh different winner in the eight races held for the class this season.
Jumping into the lead at the drop of the green flag, Warrenfeltz was setting a blistering pace as he opened up a sizable lead past the halfway point. As Austin lead, 10th starting Brian Booze was on the move as he reached second by the 14th lap and was closing in fast. A lap 18 caution set the stage for another dramatic Hagerstown finish, but when the race went back green Warrenfeltz was up to the challenge and would control the final two laps to score the breakthrough win. “We were fast out of the box tonight and all we did was bolt on new tires.” Austin stated in victory Lane. “It feels great to finally win here and if it weren’t for my dad, my sponsors and all my family for their support, we wouldn’t be here right now.” Booze held tough for second, current point leader Shawn Shoemaker was third with Justin Weaver and Ryan Zook rounding out the top five. Heats went to Wesley Bonebrake and Ryan Zook.
In the 15-lap East Coast Legends feature former Hagerstown Late Model winner Devin Friese scored the popular win. Devin came from his eighth starting spot to grab the lead from his son Colton on the 10th lap to take the win. “I have to thank Lisa Plessinger for giving us the opportunity to race here this season and to get the win here tonight makes it even better.” Colton Friese, Seth Kearchner, Dalton Friese and Logan Jones rounded out to top five. Heats went to Dalton Friese, Logan Jones and Logan Carbaugh.
Current point leader Dillon Wilson drove to his 3rd win in a row and 4th of the season in the 15-lap Semi Late main. Lining up 8th for the start, Wilson reached second by the 10th lap and made the winning pass from race long leader Jasen Geesaman coming off the fourth turn on the last lap to secure the win. “Our car has been good all season and we had a lot of stiff competition tonight and it was a good race with Jasen there at the end.” Geesaman held tough for his fourth runner-up finish of the season with Steve Kent, Jamey Swank and 12th starting Isaiah Miller completing the top five. Heats went to Wilson and Kent.
