MYERS DOUBLES IN LATE MODEL SPORTSMAN, SHOEMAKER TRACK CHAMPION. WILSON WINS SEMI LATE THRILLER, KENT SECURES TRACK TITLE
Hagerstown MD, (9/7/24)- Greencastle Pa’s DJ Myers drove to his second win of the season in last Saturday’s 20-lap Late Model Sportsman feature at Hagerstown Speedway. The win for Myers, aboard his familiar Rocket No.70J, made him the only the second repeat winner in the class this season.
Lining up fourth for the start, Myers took the lead from Kyle Moser on the third lap and would lead the distance to score the win. Eventual runner up Ryan Zook came from his 11th starting spot by the eighth lap and started running Myers down. A lap 18 caution set the stage for another dramatic Hagerstown finish, but Myers was not to be denied as he would go on to score his overall 19th career Hagerstown feature win. “This is such a tough class so we had to make the most of our starting spot here tonight.” Myers stated post race. “We’ve been struggling with this car for the past month or so, but my dad and everybody on this crew stuck with it and it’s always a good feeling to win here at Hagerstown.” Locked into a tight point battle coming into the final point race of the season Ryan Zook’s second place finish wasn’t enough as Shawn Shoemaker’s 7th place drive was enough to claim the track title by just 8-points over Zook. Kyle Lear took third, 10th starting Brian Booze was fourth with Andy Fries rounding out the top five. Taking heat race wins over the 32 car field were Ryan Zook, Zach Kauffman, Kyle Lear and DJ Myers with Dale Murphy scoring the B-main win.
Dillon Wilson snared the lead from Jason Stoner on the third lap and would go on to collect his division leading 5th win of the season in the 15-lap Semi Late Main. This class also featured another cliffhanger point battle as eventual runner-up Steve Kent came from his 9th starting spot to harass Wilson to the checkered flag and would also score his first career Hagerstown championship over Wilson by just 19 markers. Stoner hung tough for third, Jamey Swank was fourth with 13th starting Brady Neff trailing at the finish. Heats went to Jasen Geesaman and Steve Kent.
Michael Altobelli was at the right place at the right time as he would take top honors in the 20-lap UMP Modified feature for his 8th career track win. Ray Kable and Spike Moore we’re having a spirited battle running first and second until they tangled on the 18th lap, sending them to the pits and Altobelli into the lead and eventual win. Cody Oliver, 10th starting Beau Aikey, Cody Williams and Mikey Corbin would complete the top five. Even though mechanical issues forced him to not start the event Jimmy Jesmer Jr. was crowned the 2024 track champion. Ray Kable and Spike Moore took heat race victories.
Jason Wilkins came all the way from his 12th starting spot to take the lead from 6 time winner Evan Foust on the 13th lap to post his first win of the season in the 15-lap Pure Stock feature. Nick Fogle took a solid second, and with his 10th to 3rd drive, Keith Reed would claim his second consecutive track title. Evan Foust faded to fourth with Nathan Younker rounding out the top-five. Heat race wins went to Keith Reed, Kristopher Hutton and Jason Wilkins.
