White City, Oregon- Southern Oregon Speedway was on tap for Prestige Excavation Night on Saturday, July 10th. The White City clay oval had three divisions in attendance, including two Speedway Motors IMCA Weekly Racing program classes. They included the World Famous Autos Limited Sprints, Sweet Tea IMCA Modifieds, and Dusty's Transmissions IMCA Northern Sport Mods.
Jacksonville teenager Carly Holmes hit pay dirt in the World Famous Autos Sprint Car main event. It is the young lady's first career victory, and she is the second winner in as many races at Southern Oregon. The other victor earlier in the campaign was her older brother, Tanner.
Central Point's Jake Wheeler came across the line in second, followed by Bailey Hibbard, from Medford, in third. Medford teenager Enrique Jamie was credited with fourth over fifth finishing Dave Hibbard, of Medford and Bailey's father.
The trend of different winners carried over in the Sweet Tea IMCA Modifieds. Mark Wauge opened up his 2021 winning account by becoming the third driver to grace victory lane in as many shows. The Medford native collected his first triumph in an IMCA Modified since May 27th, 2018, at Siskiyou Golden Speedway in Yreka, California. He is also the newest chauffeur to join the winner's table in KMJ Performance Oregon State and Shaw Race Cars Western Region competition.
Albert Gill, from Central Point, was a respectable runner-up over the third-place finisher Jesse Bailey, also of Central Point. Medford's James Welshonse and Klamath Falls pilot Jeremy Ohlde completed the top five finishing order in fourth and fifth.
Lastly, the Dusty's Transmissions IMCA Northern Sport Mods were the only division to see a familiar mount "park it" in the winner's circle. Jorddon Braaten, from Central Point, scored his third win of 2021 at Southern Oregon Speedway, fifth KMJ Performance Oregon State triumph, and overall on the season, his seventh victory. Braaten's most recent win came on July 3rd at Cottage Grove Speedway.
Brookings-based racer Matt Sanders and Yreka, California teenager Ryan Peery were second and third. Mike Medel, from Medford, collected fourth over fifth-place earner Wyatt Westfall, also of Medford.
Southern Oregon Speedway is slated for a pair of races on Friday, July 23rd, and Saturday, the 24th, for the Pacific Sport Mod Showdown. The Dusty's Transmissions IMCA Northern Sport Mods will be the headliner for both nights. Other Friday night divisions include the World Famous Autos Limited Sprints, For Saturday evening, the only other class on the card will be the Dwarf Cars.
