White City, Oregon- After having a successful monster truck show the week before, Southern Oregon Speedway returned to auto racing on Saturday, August 14th. It was to be World Famous Autos Night with three divisions on the bill. The Interstate Sprint Car Series, Sweet Tea Express IMCA Modifieds, and Dusty’s Transmissions IMCA Northern Sport Mods were all in action.
The Interstate Sprint Car Series kicked off their Week of Speed at Southern Oregon. It was the first race at the track since it was rebranded in 2018. When all of the dust settled, Central Point’s Jake Wheeler was first to the line. Camden Robustelli, from Medford and in the T.J. Winningham owned entry, finished second over third-place finishing R.J. McGahney, from Grants Pass. Medford native Charlie Thompson and Junction City veteran Shane Forte were fourth and fifth.
Jeffrey Hudson tamed the field in the Don Roemer-owned entry in the Sweet Tea Express IMCA Modifieds. Hudson, of Keno, has won three times in KMJ Performance and the Shaw Race Cars Western Region this year, but it is the first time he has done so at SOS.
Central Point’s Dave Duste Jr. went home second while grabbing third was Mark Wauge, from Medford. James Welshonse, of Shady Cove, ended his evening fourth with fifth place being credited to Klamath Falls’ Zach Fettinger.
Matt Sanders had a breakthrough victory in the Dusty’s Transmissions IMCA Northern Sport Mods. The Brookings-based racer won for the first time at Southern Oregon, but it is his seventh campaign victory, including his third occasion in KMJ Performance Oregon State action.
Yreka, California teenager Ryan Peery placed second over Mike Jones in third. Medford motorists Branden Wilson and Chance Gordan were fourth and fifth.
Southern Oregon Speedway returns to racing on Saturday, August 21st. Classes on the card include the Sweet Tea Express IMCA Modifieds, Dusty’s Transmissions IMCA Northern Sport Mods, and Hornets. For more information, check out the track website or Facebook page.
