Trenchard, Killingsworth, R. Knight, And A. Hedges Win Haudenshild Tribute Features At SOS
White City, Oregon- Southern Oregon Speedway came back to life on Saturday, July 9th, for the Haudenshild Tribute and Kids Bike Giveaway Night. The event was initially scheduled for May 28th but was washed away by rain. Classes on the card included IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Northern SportMods, Super 4’s, and Mini Stocks.
Rogue River veteran Jon DeBenedetti was the early pacesetter in the IMCA Modified main event. DeBenedetti cruised around like a missile with a long green flag run occurring. It brought some hefty lapped traffic into the mix as well.
Jon would be under some heavy fire from Nick Trenchard in the closing stages. Racing the Biehn Racing-owned entry, the Klamath Falls native procured P1 at the line on lap twenty-nine. Trenchard would win the main event and earn his second victory of the season at SOS this year.
Klamath Falls’ Zach Fettinger was the runner-up, while Jesse Bailey, from Central Point, earned third. Jeffrey Hudson, of Keno and racing for car owner Don Roemer, hit the line fourth over fifth finishing Medford veteran Mark Wauge.
The IMCA Northern SportMods had an exciting feature. Yreka, California standout Ryan Peery took to the front early. There were seven cautions to keep the field bunched up many times during the race. Finally, on lap twenty-seven, Ethan Killingsworth, also from Yreka, stormed around Peery to obtain first place. He would remain there the rest of the way to score his first trip to the winner’s circle at Southern Oregon in 2022.
Ryan Peery beat out Chico, California’s Tyler Rodgers, for second. Californians Jace Wright of Gazelle, and Ryder Boswell, from Yreka, made it an all-Golden State top five with fourth and fifth place finishes. Eagle Point chauffeur Jacob Hoppes won the consolation feature.
Rikki Lynn Knight put on a clinic in the Super 4 ranks. The Central Point chauffeur dominated the non-stop main event. It is the first time she has "parked it" in victory lane. Dustin Knight, also from Central Point, was second, followed by Shad Cove’s Anthony Bartell. John Barger of Medford completed the finishing order in fourth.
Ashtin Hedges was the man of the hour in the Mini Stocks. The White City racer withstood several challenges from David Steele. From Talent, Steele was able to reel in Hedges and get around him, only for Ashtin to retake possession of P1 before the lap could be completed. It is the third win of the season for Ashtin Hedges.
David Steele was a respectable runner-up, with Scott Yerges claiming third. Grant Pass driver Dylan Irving and Marilyn Yawnick of Yreka, California, were the rest of the top five, in fourth and fifth.
Southern Oregon Speedway returns to racing action on Saturday, July 23rd. Sprint Cars, IMCA Northern SportMods, Super 4’s, and Mini Stocks will all be on the card. For more information, log on to www.southernoregonmotorsports.com.
