Season Opener Yields a Podium
This weekend was a great start to the 2014 racing season. Saturday we had rain all day at the track. Come Sunday morning the track was very green (little grip) and had some wet spots. Naturally it was hard to setup the chassis for these conditions so Brian setup the kart for the dry. Unfortunately our tire pressure was too low in qualifying and I could only manage 6th. The track "came to us" after qualifying. The first heat race I had an excellent start gaining two positions into turn one. I held my place through the remaining laps. 3rd place was disqualified for illegal width putting me in 3rd. Heat 2 I again started 6th (progressive heat races) and managed another 2 spots on the start finishing in 4th. With my final points combined I started 3rd for the final race. My start was good, but not good enough to gain positions. My tires came in slowly and eventually I was running the same lap times as the leader (Brian Keck). The gap was about 10 kart lengths and I made it 9 lengths by the checkered flag. With a 3rd place finish I head to Sonoma for round 2 on April 26th. Stay tuned!
-Thanks to Brian Keck, Red Line Oil, Arai, Slime Products, and my family for support.
