Pro Kart Challenge: The Name Says it All
This past weekend was the Superkarts USA! Prokart challenge. There was an excellent turnout at Sonoma Raceway, no doubt. Morning practice on Sunday was good and I managed to be seventh quickest. Qualifying was a different story but I still managed a 12th place starting position. In the first heat race I had an excellent run. At the drop of the flag I passed three karts on the outside of the track. Heading down into turn one I kept the competition behind me and my eyes up. I passed two more people into turn two and found myself in a train of karts with the leaders only a few spots ahead. There was a huge pileup in turn three but I kept on the bumper of Daniel Langon and we proceeded past the wreckage. The remainder of the race was follow the leader and I heard a peculiar noise. Soon the checkered flag fell and I was coasting into the pits. With my eyes burning from the dust and wind I was handed a #1 board on the scales. It turns out that I had won my class, S2, in the first heat race! This was big for me because I was aiming for top 7, my previous record at Supernats in 2013. Unfortunately the rest of the weekend was not in my favor. On the start of the second heat my motor began to detonate and soon I was being passed in every corner. I managed to hold on to 12th but the final race was too much for my piston and I did not finish (DNF). All in all it was a very fun weekend and I am very excited for the street race in Modesto, CA on August 1-3. See you there :)
Thank you to Brian Keck, Ron White, My parents, and Simraceway.
