Second Place for the Second Race
The second Red Line Oil Race of the year yielded a 2nd place finish. The track was damp from rain showers the night before but the clouds were parting. Soon the sun was out and qualifying took place. I ended up qualifying P4. The first heat race was great. On the start I gained one position putting me right behind second place into turn 1. The front two pulled a way from me but soon I began to close the gap. It was not enough to make up any massive ground. Later in the race the leader retired with a broken drive gear. It was fun racing and I managed a 2nd place finish. My pace was great, but not the best into the second heat race. I had an even better start and was right behind the leader into turn 1. A few laps later I had a small battle with third place and was eventually passed cleanly. I kept my distance from forth place and finished the race far ahead of the remaining field. The final race was exciting. I started P2 (outside front row). My start was sub-par and I lost two positions. After being shuffled back I began to close the gap on third place. As my tires came in the gap became smaller and smaller. The white flag flew and I knew where I had to pass for a podium finish. It was a make-it-or-break-it moment and I managed to secure the run going into the sweeper. I out broke third place in one of the last corners, securing the podium points and awards. My strategic pass was a great personal achievement and I am excited for race three. Huge thanks to Brian Keck, Red Line Oil, Arai, and my parents.
