Jeep Van Wormer Conquers World of Outlaws in NAPA Auto Parts 50 at Winston Speedway

Rothbury, Michigan (Friday August 16th, 2013): The gates to the Winston Speedway opened to greet the members of the World of Outlaw Late Models for the NAPA Auto Parts 50 presented by Keyser Manufacturing. The show featured racing from the some of the best late model drivers in the country who battled the Winston regulars. The UMP DIRTcar Modifieds and Street Stocks were also in attendance in the racing program.

The Street Stocks held their main event which saw the feature win go to Derek Poland. He picked up the victory by crossing the line just ahead of two time and defending UMP DIRTcar East Region and track champion Dan Dykman. Dan Wilson, Sadie Klein, and Chuck Smith rounded out the top five. The preliminary heat races were won by Klein and Poland.

Collin Thirlby was the big winner in the UMP DIRTcar Modifieds A-Main. Defending track champion Andy Sprague finished as the runner up. Ed Reyes, Dave Baker, and Jason Hoogerhyde finished out the top five finishers. Thirlby and Stan Dodds were the heat race winners.

The main event of the night belonged to the visitors from the World of Outlaw Late Models who squared off with the local Michigan drivers for the NAPA Auto Parts 50 presented by Kesyer Manufacturing. After a hard fought battle with the seasoned veterans from all over the country it would be Michigan native Jeep Van Wormer taking the checkered flag.

Van Wormer, driving out of Pinconning, Michigan finished just in front of two time world of outlaws champion and current point leader Josh Richards. Defending series champion Rick Eckert, Mike Spatola, and 2006 series champion Tim McCreadie completed the top five. Two time and defending champion Darrell Lanigan was sixth. Shane Clanton, Bub McCool, Brady Smith, and Chub Frank rounded out the top ten. Frank, Eckert, and Smith won the heats. McCool took the B-Main, and Spatola set fast time in qualifying with a time of 14.182.

Next week Friday August 23rd the Winston Speedway will play host to the 2013 season championship for the Allstar Performance Michigan Dirt Cup Modified Tour, bringing all of the most talented modified drivers to battle head to head in what should be a thrilling 40-lap feature event worth $1500 to Win. It will also be back to school night at the track where all children under eleven will get in free, and the first 300 kids in will receive candy. The show will also feature racing from Street Stocks, Factory Stocks, Four-Cylinder Mini Stocks, Four-Cylinder Warriors, and Young Guns. Pit gates open at 4:00pm, Grandstands at 5:00pm, Practice starts at 6:30pm, and racing begins at 7:30pm.
