Spring Lake Native, Jacob Poel Headlines Winners in Big 6 in 1 Show at Winston Speedway
Rothbury, Michigan (Friday July 12th, 2013): Gates opened again for another thrilling Friday night of racing at the fast 3/8ths (0.375) mile high banked dirt oval of Winston Speedway in Rothbury, Michigan. It was Praxair Welding Supply Night which featured a special for the Four-Cylinder Warrior drivers competing for $300 to win. UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, Street Stocks, Factory Stocks, Four-Cylinder Mini Stocks, and Young Guns were also in action.
The Young Guns divisions held their feature event which saw Trent Musk go home the big winner after being the first to checkered flag. Todd Ryan was the runner up. Billy Frey, Morgan Smith, and Tony Taylor rounded out the top five. Frey was the winner of the lone heat race.
Mike Goodwin Jr. was the driver in victory lane after the conclusion of the Four-Cylinder warriors feature event. Tim Stafford finished second. Christian Wynbelt, Chris Gagnon, and Casey Vogel made up the rest of the top five. The preliminary heat races went to Ric Nic, Vogel, and Goodwin Jr.
The Four-Cylinder Mini Stocks would see Rich Lieb as the first driver to reach the finish line taking home the checkered flag. Brian Carson picked up the second spot. Gary Larabee, Chad Tomczak, and Tom Spoon finished off the top five. Carson, and two time, defending UMP DIRTcar sport compacts eastern states, and 2011 track champion Paul Namey picked up the heat wins.
In the Factory Stocks main event 2011 track champion Rob Sternberg ended up scoring the big win. Josh Grabe settled for second. Defending track champion Josh Sternberg, Tony Sherrell, and Mike Fekken capped off the top five. The heat race victories went to Rob Sternberg, and Josh Sternberg.
Derek Poland was able to pick up the victory in the Street Stocks feature. He finished ahead of Ralph Sternberg who was second. Jeremy Holman, Chuck Smith, and Dan Wilson completed the top five finishers. Justin Giddings, and Poland took the heats.
Finally the UMP DIRTcar Modifieds went head to head in their feature event shootout. When it was all said and done Jacob Poel earned the big victory. Two time defending track champion Andy Sprague took second. Collin Thirlby, Kevin Cavanaugh, and Ed Reyes rounded out the top five. Sprague, defending UMP DIRTcar Michigan State Champion David Mielke, and Poel won the heats.
Next week Friday July 19th the Winston Speedway will feature the Kenny Blondeel Memorial for Street Stocks presented by Port City Racecars. There will also be a special appearance by the traveling cars and stars of the Lane Automotive Michigan Traditional Sprints. The UMP DIRTcar Late Models, UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, Factory Stocks, Four-Cylinder Mini Stocks, Four-Cylinder Warriors, and Young Guns will make up the rest of the nights program. Every Friday night, the Pit Gates Open at 4:00p.m. Grandstand Gates Open at 5:00p.m. Practice Starts at 6:30p.m., and Racing Begins at 7:30p.m.
