Paul Namey and Dan Dykman Win Specials in Winston’s 6 In 1 Show
Rothbury, Michigan (Friday August 2nd, 2013): The doors opened to the members of the Michigan Auto Racing Fan Club at the fast 3/8ths (0.375) mile high banked dirt oval of Winston Speedway in Rothbury, Michigan. The show featured both a Street Stocks Special for $400 to win, and a Four-Cylinder Mini Stocks special for $300 to win. The UMP DIRTcar Super Late Models, Factory Stocks, Four-Cylinder Warriors, and Young Guns were also in racing action. Plus there was a very special Demo Derby that took place as well.
Billy Frey went home with another big win in the Young Guns division. He finished ahead of Trent Musk who finished in the second spot. Lydia Huisken, Todd Ryan, and Tony Taylor made up the rest of the top five finishers. Huisken picked up the win in the lone heat race.
The Four-Cylinder Warriors would see Kurtis Bennett beat out the competition for the win in the main event. Christian Wynbelt finished as the runner up. Tim Stafford, Chris Gagnon, and Rick Nic rounded out the top five. The preliminary heat race wins went to Gary Gagnon, Chris Gagnon, and Nic.
In the Four-Cylinder Mini Stocks it would be the two time and defending UMP DIRTcar sport compacts eastern region and 2011 track champion Paul Namey picking up the win for the $300 to win special. Rich Lieb took second. Brian Carson, Randy Larabee, and defending track champion Dave Avink were the top five. The winner of the lone heat race was Carson.
The Factory Stocks took part in their feature battle. When the checkered flag dropped it was 2011 track champion Rob Sternberg crossing the line first. 2011 UMP DIRTcar Factory Stocks national champion Dennis Bringedahl finished just behind in second. Josh Grabe, Beth May, and Jarid Bisson finished off the rest of the top five. Josh Sternberg and Rob Sternberg won the heats.
The Street Stocks held their feature event with a special $400 on the line. When it was all said and done two time and defending UMP DIRTcar stock car eastern region and track champion Dan Dykman found himself in victory lane. He finished over Dave Redman who took second. Jeremy Holman, Chuck Smith, and Sadie Klein capped off the top five. Dykman and Derek Poland scored the heat victories.
There was also a special Demo Derby that was held featuring front wheel drive stock cars only. The winner of the night was Dave Kaechele who started the main event and ended up winning his very FIRST victory. Ashley Richards was scored second. Logan Sorenson, and Josh Richards made up the rest of the field.
Finally the UMP DIRTcar Super Late Models went head to head in their feature battle as well. Matt Pickard was the driver holding the checkerd flag when it was all over. He beat out Rob Taylor who took the runner up position. Five time track champion Rich Neiser, Bret Darling, and Alex Kazmarski completed the top five spots. Darling and Neiser won the heats.
Next week Friday August 9th, the Winston Speedway will feature WLAW Outlaw 92.5 fan appreciation night with a huge 8 in 1 show. The high powered UMP DIRTcar Super Late Models will headline the show. The UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, Street Stocks, Factory Stocks, Four-Cylinder Mini Stocks, Four-Cylinder Warriors, Young Guns, and the Mora Mini Outlaws will make up the rest of the program.
Then in two weeks’ time will be the return of the traveling cars and stars of the proclaimed “most powerful late models on the planet” of the World of Outlaw Late Models. This event will bring some of the best late model drivers in the country to Winston Speedway. The local division joining the outlaws will be the UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, and the Street Stocks. Every Friday night, the Pit Gates Open at 4:00p.m. Grandstand Gates Open at 5:00p.m. Practice Starts at 6:30p.m., and Racing Begins at 7:30p.m.
