Winston Speedway Sees Seven Big Winners on Fan Appreciation Night

Rothbury, Michigan (Friday August 9th, 2013): The green flag was thrown for another fantastic night of racing at the Winston Speedway in Rothbury, Michigan on Friday night. There was a big 8 in 1 show for the fans in the stands as it WLAW 92.5 fan appreciation night. The action was headlined by the UMP DIRTcar Super Late Models. Joining them were the UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, Street Stocks, Factory Stocks, Four-Cylinder Mini Stocks, Four-Cylinder Warriors, and Young Guns. Plus there was another visit from the MORA Mini Outlaws.

Billy Frey was the big winner in the Young Guns division. He managed to beat out Morgan Smith who took second. Chelsey Allen, Lydia Huisken, and Kristina Johnson who all made up the top five finishing spots. The lone heat race was also won by Frey.

The Four-Cylinder Warriors feature event was taken by Rick Nic. Kurtis Bennett crossed the line just behind in second. Sara Gagnon, Buck Spencer, and Ray Geeting rounded out the top five. Harley Farkle and Chris Gagnon were the heat race winners.

The Four-Cylinder Mini Stocks held their A-Main which saw two time and defending UMP DIRTcar East Region and 2011 track champion Paul Namey. Shawn Reed picked up the second place finish. Rich Lieb, defending track champion Dave Avink, and Randy Larabee finished out the top five. The heat races were won by Ryan Hamm and Brian Carson.

Rob Sternberg picked up another win in the Factory Stocks. He finished ahead of Josh Grabe who was second. Defending track champion Josh Sternberg, Nate Trick, and Mike Fekken were the top five. Rob Sternberg and Josh Sternberg won the heats.

The Street Stocks went head to head in their feature, and after the checkered flag dropped Sadie Klein was the driver heading to victory lane. Dan Wilson was the runner up. Steve Fairbanks, Chuck Smith, and two time and defending UMP DIRTcar East Region Champion Dan Dykman capped off the top five. Jeremy Holman and Derek Poland picked up the heat wins.

The UMP DIRTcar Modifieds feature was won by Derek Passiner. Collin Thirlby had to settle for second. Jacob Poel, defending track champion Andy Sprague, and Steve McClees completed the top five. The preliminary heat races went to Kevin Cavanaugh and Thirlby.

Finally, the UMP DIRTcar Late Models squared off in their main event. When it was all said and done five time track champion Rich Neiser scored the big win. The runner up position went to Alan Vochaska. Matt Pickard, Mike Wilburn, and Rob Taylor completed the top five. Neiser and Pickard won the heats.

Next week Friday August 16th will be one of the biggest shows of the year at the Winston Speedway as they will be welcoming back the highly entertaining, high powered self-proclaimed “most powerful late models on the planet” World of Outlaw Late Models for the third year in a row. The Outlaws will be traveling in fresh off their stops in New Richmond, Wiconsin for the USA Nationals, and Independence Iowa last Monday.

The two time and defending series champion Josh Richards looks to continue his point lead over Shane Clanton, and defending series champion Darrell Lanigan. There will also be action from the UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, and the Street Stocks. Pit gates open at 4:00pm, Grandstands at 5:00pm, Practice starts at 6:30pm, and racing begins at 7:30pm.
