David Mielke Locks Up 2013 MDC Modified Championship at Winston

Rothbury, Michigan (Friday August 23, 2013): The traveling cars and stars from the Allstar Performance Michigan Dirt Cup Modified tour presented by Lane Automotive made their way to the Winston Speedway in Rothbury, Michigan on Friday night for their final race of the year and their season championship. The field of the most talented drivers in the state made their way to the fast 3/8ths (0.375) mile high banked dirt oval. The Street Stocks, Factory Stocks, Four-Cylinder Mini Stocks, Four-Cylinder Warriors, and Young Guns were also in action as well.

Billy Frey finished atop the leaderboard once again in the Young Guns division. He beat out Trent Musk who had to settle for finishing second. Todd Ryan, Kristian Johnson, and Morgan Smith made up the rest of the top five finishers. The lone heat race was won by Musk.

In the Four-Cylinder Warriors feature event it was Gary Gagnon besting the competition for the night’s checkered flag. Chris Gagnon finished just behind in second. Kurtis Bennett, Mike Goodwin, and Sarah Gagnon rounded out the top five. Bennett, Gary Gagnon, and Duane Sobers picked up the wins in the heat races.

Brian Carson scored the top finish in the main event for the Four-Cylinder Mini Stocks. He finished ahead of Rich Lieb who had to settle for second. Two time and defending UMP DIRTcar east region champion Paul Namey, Brandon Taipalus, and Randy Larabee completed the top five. Carson also won the lone heat event.

The Factory Stocks held their feature event which was won by 2011 track champion Rob Sternberg who brought yet another main event win. He beat out Jarid Bisson who took second place. Defending track champion Josh Sternberg, Josh Grabe, and Mike Dejonge finished out the top five. Both Rob and Josh Sternberg won the heats.

Derek Poland continued his winning ways earning another big victory in the Street Stocks division. Sadie Klein crossed the line in second. Two time defending UMP DIRTcar eastern states and track champion Dan Dykman, Dan Wilson, and Chuck Smith were the members of the top five.

Finally in the Allstar Performance Michigan Dirt Cup Modified 40-lap feature it was Collin Thirlby getting the huge win on the night. Second place went to Brian Ruhlman. Defending track champion Andy Sprague, Joe Rokos, and defending UMP DIRTcar Michigan State champion David Mielke rapped up the top five. The preliminary heat wins went to Rokos, Jeff Erickson Jr., Ruhlman, and Sprague. The two B-Main’s were taken by Ryan Ritchie and Travis Stemler.

Next week Friday August 30th Winston Speedway will kick off the Labor Day weekend with its yearly visit from the fire breathing winged warriors of the Engine Pro Sprints on Dirt who will headline the show. The night will also be season championship night for the Street Stocks, Factory Stocks, Four-Cylinder Mini Stocks, and Young Guns. The UMP DIRTcar Late Models will be on hand as well. Pit gates open at 4:00pm, Grandstands at 5:00pm, Practice starts at 6:30pm, and racing begins at 7:30pm.
