Poel Wins $750 Checkered Flag in Paul Bouwman Memorial Race
Rothbury, Michigan (Friday June 28th, 2013): Winston Speedway’s show Friday night was headlined by a special UMP DIRTcar Modified Memorial race for Paul Bouwman. The Modifieds went head to head for a $750 to win purse. The Street Stocks, Factory Stocks, Four-Cylinder Mini Stocks, Four-Cylinder Warriors, and Young Guns completed the show that took place in front of the fans in Rothbury, Michigan.
The Young Guns feature saw Lydia Huisken make her way to victory lane as the race winner. She picked up the win over Tony Taylor who was second. Trent Musk, Billy Frey, and Kristina Johnson rounded out the top five finishers. Musk was the winner of the heat race.
Christian Wynbelt was the big winner in the Four-Cylinder Warriors main event. Kurtis Bennett finished in the second spot. Gary Gagnon, Tim Stafford, and Frank Bisacky made up the rest of the top five. The heat races were won by Chris Gagnon, and Gary Larabee.
The Four-Cylinder Mini Stocks held their feature race. When the checkered flag dropped it was Brian Carson picking up the win. Defending track champion Dave Avink settled for second. Shawn Reed Jr., Ryan Hamm, and Chad Tomczak finished off the top five. Hamm and Rich Lieb earned the heat victories.
In the Factory Stocks main event 2011 track champion Rob Sternberg went home the winner. Josh Grabe finished right behind him in second place. Defending track champion Josh Sternberg, Drew Wilkerson, and Nate Trick capped off the top five. Josh Sternberg, and Jarid Bisson won the heats.
The Street Stocks commenced their A-main showdown where it was Josh Frye paying a visit to the winners circle. Mitch Smith took second. Sadie Klein, Brian “Dozer” Crane, and Dan Wilson completed the top five. Heat victories went to Chuck Smith and Derek Poland.
The UMP DIRTcar Modifieds held their Feature event which was the Paul Bouwman memorial for a special $750 going to the winner. When it was all said and done, Jacob Poel managed to take the big win. Four-time track champion John McCaul settled for second. Defending UMP DIRTcar racing series Michigan State Champion David Mielke, Kevin Cavanaugh, and Greg Smith rounded out the top five.
Next week Friday July 5th Winston Speedway will feature a show headlined by a VERY special fireworks show. The night will also feature the Firecracker 125, “125 laps of feature racing”. The UMP DIRTcar Late Models will go at it for a special $1000 to win prize. The Street Stocks, Factory Stocks, Four Cylinder Mini Stocks, Four-Cylinder Warriors, and Young Guns will make up the rest of the show. Every Friday night, the Pit Gates Open at 4:00p.m. Grandstand Gates Open at 5:00p.m. Practice Starts at 6:30p.m., and Racing Begins at 7:30p.m.
